Setting up a MAG box

MAG boxes work differently from app-based devices. Instead of a username and password, everything hangs off the box's MAC address, and we need that before anything will load at all.

Send us your MAC address

It is on the sticker underneath the box and also in System Settings. It looks like 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. Nothing runs before we have it, so do this one first.

Open the portal settings

  1. 1.Once the box has loaded, open Settings and press the SETUP or SET button on the remote.
  2. 2.Go to System Settings, then Servers, then Portals.

Enter the portal address

  1. 1.Under Portal 1 Name, type any name you like.
  2. 2.Under Portal 1 URL, paste the portal address from your order.
  3. 3.Save with OK.

Set the time server and restart

  1. 1.Still in System Settings, open the section for time or NTP.
  2. 2.Enter pool.ntp.org, or europe.pool.ntp.org if you are in Europe.
  3. 3.Leave settings twice, then choose Restart Portal.
Worth knowing. If the TV guide shows the wrong times, it is almost always the time server. Set it and restart the portal and the listings line up.

Formuler boxes behave the same way once a portal exists, which the Formuler guide covers, and BuzzTV puts its own menu over the top in the BuzzTV guide. If you would rather not deal with MAC addresses at all, an Android device just takes a username and password.
